Jon Ferguson began his martial arts journey in 1991 after recovering from being violently attacked. He began his training in the Pil Sung Warriors School in Bristol Tennessee. His instructors were Timothy Feathers, Matthew Komelski, and Head Instructor Tim Holmes. Pil Sung Warriors was a hybrid Tae Kwon Do/Hapkido school. Since Jon's primary interest was Self Defense and not tournament style Tae Kwon Do his training had special emphasis on practical real world defense. In 1992 the Bristol School unfortunately closed. Matthew Komelski and Tim Holmes were drawn away by military obligations. Timothy Feathers had to move for work. He offered to continue instruction to anybody who was willing to drive to his new area. Jon Ferguson was the only student out of that original batch to make the commute. From the rank of yellow belt/green stripe to black belt(1st Dan) Jon and Timothy Feathers trained one on one. In the winter of 1993 Tim Holmes returned to the area to assist Tim Feathers in testing Jon for his black belt. Jon passed the test and subsequently reported for military service. In his travels about the world for the service Jon has continued to practice his training, teach others, and still is the best of friends with his teacher Timothy Feathers. In training around the world Jon experienced other martial artists and other martial arts styles. He has never wavered in his passion for Hapkido. In 2005 Tim Feathers (now the head of the Dunamis Tao School) began looking for Hapkido affiliation. He is currently affiliated with the Tactical Hapkido Alliance and is a member in good standing. Jon Ferguson is also currently affiliated with the Tactical Hapkido Alliance and has attained the rank of 4th Dan. *Update January 1, 2020. Master Tim Feathers had to retire from Martial Arts due to health limitations and has unfortunately closed the Dunamis Tao School. Currently I am his only student who actively teaches his martial arts. |
