Master Feathers was kind enough to film most of the throws for high yellow. I have lightly edited these and uploaded them. Enjoy.
I appreciate all the work that he and his family is doing to make Hapkido Online great.
The Hapkido Online forum remains one of the least
visited elements of the site. Both beta and v1 of the forum just aren't grabbing any interest. I had hoped that it would be a place of discussion but after 7 months and little or no interest I am thinking about dropping it.
So I put it to you members and contributors:
Keep Hapkido Online Forum?
Lose Hapkido Online Forum?
Now here comes the hard part, if you have voted to
remove the little used forum what should we put in its place?
What can I do to make Hapkido Online a better learning interface? No idea will be dismissed and all ideas
will be considered.
So weigh in!
Added an entire page about Hapkido Sparring in green belt. Including the Falcon Parable. Enjoy!
Two soda's and three glasses of Tea equal....lots of quality time with your eyes open.
So I couldn't sleep. Today's belt test went well in the Digital Dojang (beta). However we noticed right away that if a person didn't have a webcam they could watch but not interact.
If it were Joe Blow I might have been tempted to procrastinate. However when Master Feathers is watching on an old laptop and trying unsuccessfully to drop pearls of wisdom....that won't do.
We decided pretty quickly that an old school text chat feature is needed. Furthermore I had the feeling for some time now that the video screen size was on the small side.
It was time to make Digital Dojang Version 1. Six hours later it was more or less done. Yep pulled an all nighter. If ever you guys think I am making too much money on this deal, remember this night. For tomorrow will be hard.
The good news is we now have a text chat feature. The Digital Dojang screen size is huge and takes up fully 7/8's of the whole screen. I also made it easier and faster to set up the system for the first time.
Well it's 4:13 Sunday morning, church starts in six hours, think I will return to bed.
Hello Hapkido Friends,
This week Matthew and I re-filmed two yellow belt techniques, Figure 4 and Lifting Hammer Lock.
It became obvious to me during a Digital Dojang session with Master Tim and David Henry that my existing video was a little outdated. Master Tim had refined those two techniques. So we went back and did them again in the new way and pronounced them good.
Just to let you folks know, I intend to give you the very best training I can, sometimes that means taking a couple steps back before we can move forward.
Hello Hapkido Friends,
Just a quick update to let you know that I've recently added content to the site. We now
have a Hapkido History page:
It's on the free side of the password so please share it with friends. I tried to paint
an accurate portrayal with the few sources I could find, believe me not much
solid evidence remains. I was able to find some very nice photo's and even the only known video clip of the closest thing we have to a founder Grand Master Choi Yong Sul.
We hope to be adding further curriculum based content soon.
A great way to lean Hapkido is to start a club. It's impossible to learn
Hapkido alone, you may as well make it a group event. The neat thing about this
is you have a willing group of uke's to work with. When a member makes it to
black belt they can transition the club to a fully fledged Hapkido School and
begin teaching their own students.
The rules to your
individual club are entirely up to you, it's your club.
Your club members do not necessarily have to be members of Hapkido Online or THA
to practice Hapkido with you, however you can't test them for (Hapkido) Gup rank
till you are at least a 1st Dan in Hapkido.
2. If you
have club members that want to gain rank in Hapkido they will be have to be
reviewed and tested by me or another one of the teachers at Hapkido Online such
as Master Feathers (in the Digital Dojang). Of course any THA instructor can
promote your club members as well (if your club members are members of
3. In other words in order to be promoted, people
have to join. Once they join they are exactly like any Hapkido Online member in
that they are members and can train and test through Hapkido Online. In a club
environment you can all work together to learn the content, it's a heck of a lot
of fun and creates a pool of uke's.
4. You can
charge your own club fees outside of Hapkido Online to your club
members if you desire, that is none of my business.
you attain first dan your Hapkido Club can then transition to a fully fledged
Hapkido School. Then you are your own school entity and will interface directly
with GM Rodemaker regarding your THA affiliate school status. At that point you
won't be working through Hapkido Online much anymore, though we can always use
6. These rules only apply to Hapkido Online and not
necessarily to the Tactical Hapkido Alliance. Your membership and member school
status to THA is above me and resides with GM Rodemaker.
Hello Hapkido Friends,
Well the first week back from vacation has been awesome. It felt good to get back to work with my local guys! I would like to offer a warm welcome to our newest student Mr. Tony Chu.
Those of you training remotely have been waiting for new material for a couple of weeks. Thanks for your patience! I promise the material is on its way. Master Feathers and his family are working on new stuff and Mr. Barrett Berard with Black Dragon has also started helping us out.
Of course we'll resume filming here at Yorktown next Monday.
I wanted to take this first week back to get back into the groove before
we have to groove in front of a camera.
I hope everybody out there is training and having fun with Hapkido. It would be nice if you remote students checked in with me sometime next week. I would say it's time to do a Digital Dojang review with some of
you. Remember if any of you ever have any questions about techniques or Hapkido you will always have my ear and I am more than willing to meet with you in the Digital Dojang as often as needed to get you where you need to be with your training. So roll call guys!!! Time to check in.
I just wanted to let you know that at the moment what
you are seeing is Hapkido Online Beta Edition. In other words this is the prototype learning system. We still have enormous work to do before Beta is complete. Already I am brimming with ideas for Hapkido Online Version 1.0. It's tempting to rush ahead, however Hapkido Online philosophy mirrors Hapkido, we must first establish a solid foundation from which to build from before advancing. So growth and development will be gradual and responsible. My first and highest priority is always you guys, the students. Not a day goes by that I don’t ask myself, am I getting it right and how can I do it better? If you ever have a suggestion or feedback please feel free to let me know.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all who are participating in the project, particularly to those of you who have contributed your financial resources and most especially your time. I would never have gotten this far without your support. If any of you would like to have your Martial arts school or club listed on the 'Member Schools' page:
Please email me your logo and any information you would like listed. Some of you are still in the Gup ranks and may feel uncomfortable listing your school there, don't. We can just list you as a Hapkido Club till you have attained sufficient Dan Rank to call yourself a school. A Hapkido Club working in conjunction with Hapkido Online and THA is a viable thing and successful schools can start this way. You never know you may have people in your area who want to learn Hapkido and a club might
appeal to them.
Finally I would like to extend my gratitude to Mr. Andrew Fabbro for giving us a glowing review on his martial arts distance learning review
It's a cool site, you all should check it out. So that's it for now, happy
Teacher and Hapkido Online Developer.
