Well Folks Happy to say our good work continues. We have new video uploaded to High Green and Blue Belt Level. It is frankly some of the best footage we've shot to date. As always I would like to share my gratitude with Grand Master Rodemaker for shooting Hapkido Online video. Also my undying gratitude to Master Feathers and family for their ongoing
work and effort. Also Mr. David Henry deserves mention for hosting us at his awesome ProForm Dojang. Also I would like to thank my wife Julie and family for allowing the Father/Husband a couple of days to focus on Hapkido. I've also uploaded the prayer stretch for the warm-up pages. It's a stretch we do every class at my Yorktown school and I feel it's effective. We still have a LOT of video in the can that needs editing and uploading. I'll be working away. Also I would like to mention Mr. Pat Mills, photographer and kindred spirit, who has selflessly lent his camera equipment and advice to Hapkido Online off and on for the last year. Much of the better stuff you've seen on our site was made possible by this man and we are indebted to him. The last few weeks have been very quiet on Hapkido Online. I suspect that Spring is here and folks are outside with their families and that is good. Family always comes before Hapkido. I know in the days and weeks ahead I see progress video's from everybody. For those of you interested in building clubs and/or charter schools. Check out the new club membership option on the join and store page. It's a heck of a good deal. One thing I can say about Hapkido Online and the Tactical Hapkido Alliance, we want very much for you to succeed. Many orgs are very reticent to share and are territorial in nature but THA has always worked hard to see it's people be fruitful and multiply. Some of you seem to struggle endlessly with finding uke's. I'll be praying for you. Hapkido can bring people together if you let it. I trust the Lord will look out for you. Remember it's impossible to learn Hapkido alone. One might say it's impossible to really learn martial arts alone. It would be like trying to sharpen a blade without a sharpening stone with the empty space alone. "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17

The Martinsburg WV seminar was, I think, a real success. Mr. Henry has an extremely nice dojang and many good people in attendance. Our hotel accommodations were the nicest of any THA seminar I've yet attended and they were priced very, very, reasonably. Seminar turnout was good and everybody genuinely seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many thanks to everybody who participated and to Mr. Henry for hosting. Also as always my appreciation to Grand Master Rodemaker who inspires young and old alike.
I was extremely pleased that one of Mr. Henry's Hapkido Online Club uke's, Mr. Colin, has decided to join up and promote. I found him very capable and was very honored to be able to test him and promote him in person. I was so inspired by Mr. Henry's Hapkido Online Club that I've decided to offer a Club Membership Package. It is frankly, the most economical membership package on Hapkido Online. It covers 6 lifetime THA memberships with two years of Hapkido Online service. For a budding martial arts school or an established school wanting to include a Hapkido Curriculum this is an amazing offer. We help you build a successful Hapkido Online Club and eventually a flourishing THA Charter School with pre-established teachers and students. Everything you need to make it. GM Rodemaker was so pleased with this idea that he has promised that any Hapkido Online club that has at least one Hapkido Online Black Belt will be offered a charter school membership at a substantial discount! Folks, I tell you this is an unprecedented opportunity. Don't believe me? Shop around, you will see. ![]() Our new logo art is the brainchild of master artist Jim Barnes, good friend and skilled Hapkidoin. The flaming hand is truly a live hand and means so much to us. Not only is live hands a massive part of Hapkido technically but also the concept of the open hand and the flames are filled with meaning for us as Christians. Jesus himself heals with his open hands and calms storms in addition to so many other miracles. The flames have echoes of the burning bush in the Old Testament when God himself spoke to Moses and declared, I AM... The flaming hand is iconic and is so perfect for our Christian Martial Arts. Many sincere thanks to Jim and his family. If you would like to see more amazing art from Jim Barnes visit his website: www.ravenseggmultimedia.webs.com My Fellow Hapkidoin,
One year ago I began building Hapkido Online, while we have come a long way in that year obviously work continues. We've passed many milestones. Approval and support of the Tactical Hapkido Alliance, first students, and first international students. We've also seen the rise of the very first Hapkido Online clubs. In the past year we've added scores of video and text training. We've had to occasionally go back and re-shoot training video's to ensure the very best training. We've added lesson's about the history of Hapkido and tons of graphics. I owe thanks first and foremost to God, my wife, kids, and our family. Who have believed in this project from the beginning. Important people have helped us along the way, most notably, Grand Master Rodemaker, Senior Master Ziots, and Master Feathers and his family. Grand Master Rodemaker has been so passionate in his support, where would we be without his energy? The Feathers family is made up of warriors and they have put in interminable hours towards the learning and propagation of Tactical Hapkido. I would also like to send a respectful bow to my brothers, Braxton and Clayton and a big hug to my sister Denise. I would also like to say a very warmhearted thank you to the uke's who have allowed me to torture them on camera first and foremost among them, Mr. Matthew. You may have noticed him, the tall fellow that is often my uke. In many ways Hapkido Online has grown with Matthew, our belt level content has grown as he has grown as a Hapkidoin. For you beginning students you are in many ways following Matthew's path as my local student. I would also like to share my thanks to our students and friends at Pro Form TKD. Mr. David Henry and Mr. John Straka were some of our very first distance learners and at the time took quite a leap of faith. Additionally Mr. Henry has been a contributor to Hapkido Online's content occasionally. In the last year Hapkido Online has welcomed over 70,000 visitors. It has gained critical recognition on other websites and gained notice with advertisers. Most importantly it has a small but loyal student base that make it all possible. It is YOU the students that allow me to build it so that others may learn and grow. Hapkido Online has brought Chon Sul Kwan to the hearts of many new people and has made the first steps for a real and lasting international presence for the THA. I would like to express my gratitude to everybody at THA. So many have contacted me to express support for our work here. It really helps. The 7th of February will mark Hapkido Online's birthday for that is the date that I purchased the domain. The domain has been renewed and I look forward to another great year. Thank You all so much for your participation, support, and patronage. With Great Respect, Jon Ferguson Hello Hapkido Friends, We have a tremendous seminar coming up April the 27th. It's in Martinsburg, WV. For those of you who train with me at Yorktown that's only about four hours down the road. I realize for you international guys it's pretty darn far but if you were planning on being in the Eastern US around that time it would be well worth your time. Attached is the flyer with all of the details. The seminar is being hosted by our very own Mr. David Henry. It will be a fun filled Saturday with Grand Master, Senior Master, and Master level instruction, often you will get personal instruction as they generally walk around and help people individually. Grand Master Rodemaker is a very dynamic teacher and speaker and is always a joy to learn from. I strongly urge you to attend, you won't regret it!
Hello Hapkido Fans,
Tonight I've uploaded the final video for Green Belt. I may re-shoot and fine tune here and there but the base footage is in place. I hereby dub Green Belt to be complete. On to High Green! Enjoy, Jon ![]() Yesterday I uploaded a better same side S-lock video. The video above it was seven months older. The instruction is better in the new one and after seven months of focused practice my technique is also better. (I originally learned this lock decades ago.) Since the latest video is so much better than the original I've decided to pull the old one. However before I pulled the old one I took a screenshot of the two video's. I would like to point out that I am 25 pounds lighter in the new video than the old one. Regular Hapkido practice and eliminating wheat and dairy from my diet completely for the last three months has been good for me. I am still losing weight and on track for my target weight of 185 pounds. This stuff works folks! Green belt Interceptions added. These are a very pleasant exercise to practice. Enjoy yourself but have care, for it only takes a fraction of a seconds inattention to make for a bloody nose. Safety First.
Added tic tac toe approach to learning stance to yellow belt. Added Master Tim's thoughts on high yellow belt joint locks. It's a late night and as you can see both Master Feathers and myself have been burning the candle at both ends but I am pleased with the material. Bear in mind that everything you are seeing in the training section is Beta edition. As Hapkido Online progresses we will occasionally revisit older video's and improve them. I hope to get material from some of you out there. It's best to try to keep making progress. Hello Hapkido Friends,
We've had a couple of small setbacks and it has slowed progress. #1, I accidentally broke our video camera. Never fear, a new camera is on the way and it is really needed for the Green Belt videos! #2, I still do not have reliable high speed internet at our new home. I was making headway on my savings goal to have Cox Cable trench in a new line for the house when the camera broke. I decided to spend part of our Hapkido Funds on the camera. I know that you have entrusted me with your membership money and belt fees and I am committed to using those resources to forward Hapkido Online and make it better than ever. In light of this I've found a lightly used camera that is suitable. No point paying retail for something that's going to travel about in my gym bag. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Master Tim Feathers for helping out with the Digital Dojang while I get my I.T. ducks in a row. I would like to cheer Mr. Thobias on his efforts to build the very first Hapkido Online Club in Brazil. Those of you stateside with clubs understand just how much of a commitment that is. We are all behind you Thobias and Good Luck! Of course, Mr. David Henry and John Straka have my sincere thanks as well for their efforts to grow and develop their own Hapkido Club in West Virginia. Your participation and hard work have filled me with pride. Grand Master Rodemaker personally expressed his approval for our Hapkido Online Clubs to me on the phone this week. He thinks it’s a novel concept and should be a great stepping stone for new THA Charter schools. I would like to express my gratitude to my own family who have decided to give me two hundred square feet of our barn to build my new Hapkido Online Dojang in. Thematically I plan to make it strongly resemble the website with warm redwood tones and parchment colors. Finishes will be simple and affordable and in keeping with the Korean ways of doing more with less. I look forward to practicing and filming Hapkido in a room that has the look and feel of a traditional Dojang. Aahhh Dreams.... But first I'll focus on the necessities of getting internet and adding content. Never fear. Though they may not be big changes I continue to build the website and make refinements. Some of you may notice the little things that I have done to make it that much better. I am steadfast in my goal of making Hapkido Online great and giving you the very best Hapkido instruction I can. Everybody have a blessed and safe Thanksgiving Holiday! V/r, Jon Hello Hapkido Friends,
Master Feathers and family have kindly resumed filming for us. Yesterday I uploaded a score of new video to the high-yellow throws. I've got a couple more that require editing before I can upload them but I hope to get them posted by the end of the week. Once I've uploaded the remaining Side to Side video, High Yellow will be more or less complete. I may add some small things over time to fine tune but the core content is in place. I would just like to express my gratitude to Master Feathers and his family for taking the time to contribute to Hapkido Online. Master Tim says "on to Green Belt!" I find his lesson on the 'snake' technique to be particularly interesting. It's a complicated move and his lesson really helps clarify it. My original goal was to complete all the basic training content for First-Dan by Hapkido Online's one year anniversary on February the 7th. Needless to say I am behind schedule. As I promised last February I will keep the content coming just as fast as I can. Since February we have had fan email from people all over the world. Like a brick and mortar Dojang Hapkido Online students come and go. I am proudest of those of you who train with us regularly. Hapkido Online continues to gradually increase in internet traffic. Our best single day had 395 page views and nearly half of those were from new people (unique visitors). We average roughly 1,500 page views a month. Our student base remains small which is good. I would rather have a solid core group with quality training. I recently added better page navigation for those of you accessing us from your smart phones and other portable devices. If you simply click the training page http://www.hapkido-online.com/training.html. You can now jump to any training page from that one index. We have found the site worked pretty well on computers but the smart phones struggled with the dropdown menus so this index page ought to make it all easier. Thank you Mr. Mudry for the suggestion. If anybody has input or ideas that will improve Hapkido Online I love to get feedback. In August I added a Hapkido Online Credo: http://www.hapkido-online.com/hapkido-online-credo.html This is seven personal goals we should all hold dear. Well that is all I have for now. I wish you all the very best. Thank you for being patient whilst we moved into our new home. Now that things are settling down I look forward to working with all of you again. For those of you I haven't heard from in a while I would like to call roll. I look forward to hearing from you all. Very Respectfully and God Bless, Jon Ferguson www.hapkido-online.com |
